Mowin' Season!~Digital Layout

Hi there!

Here's a layout I started yesterday afternoon and just finished up. Dad has been happy to hand over the chore of mowing the back lawn to the girls. And while it's far from perfect, they do a very good job when they mow.

The kit I used is called Yardwork by Krisitn Aagard over at Scrap Orchard. I love how the lawnmower element looks a lot like our lawnmower. *Ü*

The template is from Set #169 by Cindy Schneider at Sweet Shoppe Designs.

Bookworm~Digital Layout

Hi there!

I've been working on this digital layout for a bit and thought you might like to see it. Jessica is a voracious reader and worked her way through a series of books by Brian Jaques about animal characters in a place called Redwall this school year. She was introduced to them by her music teacher, whose daughter read them when she was about Jessica's age. There were ten or so full size hardcover books and Jessica read every one that her teacher owned. Whenever we go to the thrift store, the book section is her first stop, and she rarely comes away without a "new to her" book. We go to the library regularly over the summer, and throughout the school year she often tells me about the books she is reading in class. Gotta love a girl who loves to read!

I used a kit called Between the Pages by Heather Roselli from Sweet Shoppe Designs. I used a Cindy Schneider template as well, but I can't remember which one. 

It was fun working on this layout and I have some ideas for other layouts I want to create.

Summer Fun Digital Layout

While today it is only in the 50s and overcast, on Monday we hit a near record high in the 90s. The girls cooled off in fine fashion and I remembered to snap pictures. Had some time this afternoon to create a non Project Life layout.

Another Fishing Layout...

When I first started working on this layout, I thought I might convert the photo to black and white, then highlight the fish by coloring it in. But after I tried it, I realized that fish is pretty darn small and the black from Jeremy's shoulder sling is pretty darn dark. So, I decided to zoom in on the fish instead. I like the color version much better.

Still using Cindy Schneider templates and Mary Fran's Gone Fishin' kit. In the interest of full disclosure (lest you think I am more talented than I really am) the circle with "Fish Come to Those Who Bait" is an element from the kit, I didn't put it together. *Ü*

Kissed by a Butterfly...digital layout

Before I get to the layout I created today, I have to share this happy mail I received yesterday from my sweet blogging friend, Alanna. This lovely card sure brought a smile to my face and I thank you Alanna for thinking of me!

The girls decided to play with some friends this afternoon and after a little while of spinning my wheels, I decided to work on a layout. I have been trying to work on layouts from the Butterfly House in Sioux Falls. But, at first, I was not feeling in the groove. I was trying to fit too many unrelated photos onto one layout and I didn't like the results. So today, I decided to select one photo to scrap and see how it went. You can let me know if it worked...

I've used another wonderful Cindy Schneider template and the kit is Haute Spring by Zoe Pearn. Both designers are at Sweet Shoppe Designs. In all the times I have visited butterfly houses I don't think I've had a butterfly land on me that stayed put for so long! I had to ask a volunteer to take it off so I could leave. In all honesty, I would have loved to have stayed until it decided to flutter off, but with the cold I had at the time, the humidity in the room was getting to me and I really needed to get some less sticky air. LOL I believe Jessica took the picture and I think she did a pretty good job, too, even if the butterfly wasn't centered in the frame. *Ü*

In other news, yesterday ended up being a bit busier than I originally thought it would be. I had an appointment to get my teeth cleaned, which I'd been procrastinating on due to the cold and all the coughing I was doing. I'm happy to say, waiting was a good thing. In the afternoon, I decided to finally call to get an appointment to have my annual eye exam, seeing as I have been wearing my last set of contacts for almost a month. Lo and behold, they had an opening! Then I asked about setting up appointments for the girls, just to get baseline info on their eyesight. (Since both their parents are pretty nearsighted, it stands to reason they might end up that way, too). They had openings for the girls, too! Yay! Got it all done in a little over an hour. Both girls eyes are great, no nearsightedness at this point, maybe a smidge farsighted, but nothing that needs any correcting. And it turns out my eyesight is improving slightly. After a lifetime of increasing nearsightedness, it's strange to hear they want to lower the power on my lenses. Granted it's only a slight improvement, but that is better than no improvement. And, the eye doctor was surprised, yet again that I have no problems seeing without bifocals. LOL

Jeremy's Amazing Catch-digital layout

Mary Fran released her Gone Fishin' kit yesterday and I bought it right away! *cough* I might have also bought the other kits in the series, too. *cough* They are all so cute...I couldn't resist! Anyway, I was anxious to get started on this layout. But, oh boy, was it a challenge to create. Partially because making the choices was hard, but also because my PSE program kept locking up before I could save, so I'd have to reboot and start again! It happened again today...grrrr.  In the end, I changed the template I was using, deleted one picture that I ultimately felt was not necessary and saved after adding just about each element. LOL Jessica was looking over my shoulder part of the time and felt I needed to add the word turtle to the title. I got the bright (?) idea to add the fish hook upside down to mimic a question mark. I think it looks cute. Amy took a peek and really liked the worms peeking out. So, since the peanut gallery was pleased, I did a final save and called it good.

Hope you had a good day today. It was super hot here, 102, I'm told. The girls wanted to go to the pool, but since I don't get into the pool, I really wasn't keen on sweltering pool-side. (Since I color my hair, I'm afraid it will turn green, so I choose not to risk it). I may take them tomorrow, when it's only supposed to be in the 90s...LOL

I went to the thrift stores, but didn't find too much. I got a 300 piece puzzle, a couple of swim suits for the girls (because they swim so often theirs tend to start sagging) and a folding card table. The table is in almost new condition and was only $5, so I figure that is my deal of the day. I'll use it for larger puzzles that won't fit on the narrow table I have. Oh, and Jessica told me I couldn't start a new puzzle until tomorrow at least, so we could enjoy the one I completed. LOL I was tickled to read that so many of you also enjoy puzzles! Thanks for sharing that.

Peaceful Moment Digi Layout

Hi there!

I finished this layout yesterday, but didn't get a chance to post it until now. My internet connection is getting wonky again (don't know if it's the heat or what) which is a bit of a pain. I had to reset it again this afternoon just so I could get online. Sigh.

The temperature gauge in my car said 101 when we left the swimming pool this afternoon. Yep, we were there again. LOL Today is supposed to be the hottest day yet of the season and after a morning where the girls made some tough choices while decluttering their room with me, I figured they'd earned being able to go to cool off. We took at least 4 large bags (the dark garden kind) to the Goodwill on our way to lunch at the school. I think they are kind of relieved to have gotten rid of some of their excess, to be honest.

Back to the layout. This is one of my favorite photos from this trip. I chose to use a Kay Miller Designs kit called Peaceful Moments and another Cindy Schneider template. I like the "feel" I was able to achieve. And get this...on the NitwitCollections blog, Mary Fran shared that she has designed a kit that is fishing themed! Whoo hooo! I have more fishing pictures to scrap, so I'm going to hold off until she releases that kit. You can see her hybrid card sample here. I think it's gonna be a winner for sure!

Squirt!

Hi There!

I hope you are doing well. It's rainy and dreary around these parts today. The temps may not get much past 50, with rain forecast off an on throughout the entire weekend. We had some hail yesterday with some stones about dime size. Thankfully, that didn't last too long. I'm sure the weather will rebound soon, so I'm not going to complain.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful comments you left on the jewelry I made for my friend. I just got off the phone with her and they arrived safe and sound. She loves them, too! She commented that they were quite unique and unlike jewelry you can find in the stores. That made me feel good, too. It sure is nice when your efforts are appreciated.

I have been working on this layout in fits and spurts for about a week now. Early this morning, I got to finish it up and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Thought you might like to see it, too.

I used a template by Cindy Schneider (from Sweet Shoppe Designs) and the Summer Splash kits (from Nitwit Collections). The font is Pea Jane.

I don't know how to layer elements all that well on my own, so I enjoy using templates where the basic layering is done for you. There are a LOT of layers in the layout, but I hope they all work together well to add to a sense of fun.

Dressing Princess

After a day filled with running errands for everyone else, and trying to work on organizing my digi stash, (which was an exercise in frustration as my program was acting up), I decided to finish up this layout. I opted to use a different kit for this one just because it's new in my stash (picked up on National Scrapbooking Day) and I thought it would work well with the photos. It's called Butterfly Kisses (any guesses as to why I selected this particular kit?  LOL) No surprise, it's from NitwitCollections. The template is from Cindy Schneider at Sweet Shoppe Designs. I loved all the hearts, which fit really well since Jessica really loves her bear.

Happy iNSD! (and other schtuff)

In case you didn't know, today, the first Saturday in May, is interNational Scrapbooking Day! Which means a day full of activities online and in some stores celebrating scrapbooking, both traditional and digital. Some online stores started sales yesterday and others will hold them all through the weekend. I've done my shopping and have been downloading my new goodies.

Not necessarily in honor of this event, I've been working on  a layout of Jessica at Build A Bear. I did manage to get it done last night and figured this is a great day to share it.

Please excuse the quality of the photos. We had to be at the Mall at a certain time and we were rushing to finish up dinner and get going. I realized about half way there, in the rush, I forgot my camera!

I took these pictures with the camera on my phone and had a dickens of a time getting them off the phone and onto my computer so I could use them.

I used a template created by Cindy Schneider (set 34) over at Sweet Shoppe Designs as the base and all of the papers are from NitwitCollections Never Not kit and add-ons.

I just have to say, sometimes being cheap (frugal, thrifty, whatever) can bite you in the butt. This is the case with the phone I selected when I upgraded back in January. I discovered I got some bad information from the salesperson who sold me the phone. I was told I could use a USB cable to transfer the photos I take on the phone to the computer. I wanted to do this because Steve and I don't text, nor do we want to. This would be a way around using messages to get the photos off the phone. I just found out from the maker of the phone that you cannot use the USB cable to do this at least not on the phone I have. No amount of talking to the store where I got the phone or the cell phone company I use would result in my being able to get a different phone because I am outside the buyer's remorse period. It doesn't matter I guess that I have gotten misinformation all along on the journey to finding out about the cable. Too bad, so sad is the attitude. So, I have a camera on my phone that can take pictures and IF I wanted to buy a messaging plan, that's the only way to transfer the pictures off of it. Sigh. And I can't get another upgrade for two years. 

The tub is ready to be re-caulked! Yay!

And, while we didn't have to buy a new surround for the tub, it turns out we have to fork out some money anyway. The van is in the repair shop as I type getting the water pump replaced. UGH! I guess we were destined to shell out some cash no matter what.

To end on a happy note, Amy had a Brownie sleepover last night. They were going to make a dinner (for a Try-It badge) and create crafts. When I picked her up this morning, she was waiting in line for the face painter they had come (maybe a friend of the hostess?) to give her a tattoo on her arm.

The butterfly on her face (which you know is what I am partial to) was painted by another Brownie. What you can't really see in the photo is the glitter on the butterfly OR the dragon.

She had a GREAT time!

Piggie #2~Digi Layout

Hi there!

Thanks so much for all the great comments on my recent crafty efforts. Looks like that wreath was a big hit! *Ü* If you decide to make one, will you please let me know so I can see your handiwork?

Yesterday was a gloriously spring-like day, sunny and in the low 60s. Today...not so much! LOL It's about 20 degrees cooler and overcast. Mother Nature sure likes to tease, because it snowed some and rained some, too! But she's going to be nice this upcoming week, I hear. 

I was thinking I might do some cleaning up around here, but the drastic change in weather put a damper on that mood. LOL I haven't digi scrapped in a good long while, so I decided to work on a layout. Well, first, I unzipped a bunch of files and started tagging them, but quit that so I could actually play. Here's what I ended up with:

I knew I wanted to use a piggie image and thankfully found a couple in my digi stash. I worked the rest of the layout around that cute quilted pig. I'm pretty pleased with the result. Jessica saw me working on this and helped me with the journaling.

I used a Becky Fleck template for this one. She has that Page Maps templates site and authored a book by the same name. I have the book and when she offered digital templates to go along with some of the templates in her book, I bought them. This template is one of those. It goes along with pp 82-83 in the Page Maps book.

I found the pig in Funny Farm, which is a NitwitCollections kit  and used the papers and elements from that kit as well, although I recolored a few of them to work with the layout. Speaking of Mary Fran, she has a blog now! I'm sure you know that makes me do a happy dance, right? *Ü*

The font is Whitehall 1212 I also used the number symbol in Ali's Font and I can't remember which font helped me make the number 2 (sorry)

I can't believe the day is almost over already. Guess I'd better close for now and finish up supper.

Christmas Morning 2009~Digi Layout

It's lightly snowing outside and the girls are  playing with their new goodies behind me. I thought it would be a perfect time to try to scrap some Christmas morning photos. I just splurged and picked up some new templates and kits this morning and just had to make use of them!

Janet Phillips (who started it) is stepping down as owner of The Daily Digi. Turns out she is now going to be a designer at Sweet Shoppe Designs. They just announced it on their newsletter this morning. I think Janet is one of my favorite template designers, after Kay Miller, of course, so I was tickled to see her there. I really like that Janet creates templates for lots of photos. I'm using Too Many Photos 2 in my layout.

I also picked up a couple of new kits from NitwitCollections. They were released earlier this month, but I really looked at them this morning and fell in love, so I bought the goodies for Deer Friends and Snow Folk. I say goodies because you can get just the kit, which stands alone, but Mary Fran also creates add-ons to the main kit, which are usually "must have" in my book. *Ü* I used Deer Friends goodies in the layout above. I like the homespun feel of the kit, especially since so many of the presents I gave were of the homemade variety.

How About Another Digi Layout?

I couldn't resist the lure of the Sweet Caroline page kit by Kristin Cronin-Barrow over at Sweet Shoppe Designs. First off, the name of the kit brought back a ton of memories. Sweet Caroline is a song sung by Neil Diamond, who was my mom's very favorite singer. I grew up on his music. She and I would sing this song together all the time. Then when I saw the colors in the kit, I was just smitten. So I had to buy it and I had to scrap with it today.

The template for this layout is by Jacq Delphin and was a freebie from Sweet Shoppe Designs. They regularly offer freebie templates as part of challenges in the Community. This one is from 9-17-2008 and is called Cookie 51. The challenges are called Cookie Decorating.

All of the papers and elements are from the Sweet Caroline kit. I recolored one of the buttons to have each one colored differently.

The font is CTMH Fountain Pen and I reduced the opacity so it would look a little more vintage.

I added a Photoblast action to make the photo Sepia.

I really like how this one turned out.

For this one I used Kay Miller's Template from Collection 30 and Mary Fran's page kit appropriately called Ouchies. The font is Pea Jane.

And here is Amy and her pumpkin named Jack.

For this layout I used Cindy Schneider's Freebie #4 template and Mary Fran's Eerie-sistable page kit. Journaling font is Pea Jane and the title fonts are CK Ali's Writing and a DJ Inkers font(forgot to note which one I used, and I simplified the layer, so it's not one I can double-check anymore)

Second Hand Skates~Digi Layout

Hi again! This is my second post today, so feel free to check out both. *Ü*

I was able to complete the other layout I had in mind. Yay!

Jessica has been talking about wanting to take ice-skating lessons since her swim class buddy, Annabelle, started taking them. Steve thought it'd be smarter to take the girls on the weekend and let them try it out for a while before making any lesson decisions. So, he took them yesterday morning and apparently they had a blast. So much so that Steve started checking out used ice skates on Craig's List. Well, he found a pair that would fit Amy, but the seller was way out in the boonies and I wasn't willing to drive that far for a pair of skates. So, I piped up that I could check the thrift stores. Amy asked me to check after dinner last night. I knew Arc was having their 50% off Saturday, so I agreed to check it out. Talk about lucky! They had a pair for each of them! So, for about $11, the girls have skates to use on their ice-rink adventures. They were so excited they begged to go to the rink today so they could try them out. Steve willingly took them. (I personally am not a big fan of ice-skating...it hurts my ankles too much, so I was content to let them have Daddy-Daughter fun).

Anyway, I took a picture of the skates and wanted to make a layout about them.

The journaling reads: Jessica has been talking about wanting to learn how to ice-skate since her friend, Annabelle, has been taking lessons. Steve took the girls to the ice rink to see if they would like ice-skating, and they sure did. Rather than take lessons right now, he’ll take them on the weekend. Their enthusiasm prompted a trip to the thrift store to find skates and we got lucky. Amy was thrilled at her “Olympic Style Skates.” She and Jessica have been walking around on them in the big room. The skates may be second hand, but the fun they are having is first rate!

Pantry Clean Out~Digi Layout

Hello there!

Yesterday was Digital Scrapbook Day! I took advantage of a sale at Sweet Shoppe Designs and picked up a few kits. Then I tried to download the kits at the same time as everyone else. Not the smartest move I've ever made. It took forever because the server was overloaded. But did I wait? Nope, I kept trying and it took all afternoon. There were a few files that I couldn't get to download, so I finally gave up and finished downloading this morning. I didn't want to wait because I had a layout I wanted to create using the kits I bought, of course! But, I had to wait anyway, because I needed one of the files to get this layout made.

The kit is called All in a Day's Work and I thought it would be perfect to use with my pantry clean out photos. I liked all the little appliances and tools for cleaning that were included.

Remember when I said I had finished organizing all my digi supplies? Well, I was trying to pull up my templates for layouts using 10 or more photos and my attempts were pulling up bizarre selections. So, I ended up having to re-organize that part of my supplies before I started on the layout. But now all my new supplies are tagged and my templates are organized better AND I completed this layout!

So much for just relaxing after my busy day on Friday, huh? LOL Well, it may not have been physically taxing to do the organizing, but mentally? That's another story. (hee, hee)

I have another layout in mind to work on. We'll see if I get 'r done today...

Too Cute To Spook!

This layout has nothing to do with the class I signed up for. It's just one I've been working on for the past few days. The previous layout I tried wasn't doing it for me, so I scratched it and started over. Then PSE locked up before I could save so I had to start all over again. But it's done now and I'm pretty happy with it, so thought I'd share (and get it off my brain).

Template is by Kay Miller (Collection 12) and the page kit is called Can I Be Frank? by Nitwitcollections. The word art is also a Nitwit product, only it's the Little Bits add-on.

Toasting Marshmallows...digi layout!

This is my second post today and proof that I was able to get a fire going just enough to toast a few marshmallows. I decided to create a layout with the photos I took.

We'll just ignore the fact that the fire ended up smoking more than burning after we were done.

At least the girls were able to satisfy their wish for squishy marshmallows. LOL

On This Day...digi layout

Hi there!

I had some time (or rather I TOOK the time) this afternoon to work on a digital layout. This was after my daily walk (another 2+ miles, but I forgot my pedometer and don't have the number of steps) and scrubbing down the bathroom floor (rather than giving it the usual lick and a promise). Boy, it sure looks like new right now. Wonder how long it will last? On Tuesday I washed down the ceiling and all the walls, including the exhaust fan/light. While we don't live in a pit, I promise, I've not really done a good and thorough cleaning in a very long time. My hope is once I get these big jobs done, I'll in effect, have a sort of clean slate and it will require more maintainance rather than being the big jobs I'm doing right now.

Anyway, since this big clean up in the bathroom is done, I treated myself to some time to create. Here's the result...

Granted, it's a rather simple layout, using a Janet Phillips template, but I still like it. I decided to look through some older photos and as you can see I took these almost 2 years ago! This was back when I was still washing dishes by hand most nights. But now I actually use the dishwasher in our kitchen. The girls take turns setting and clearing the table these days. So, them washing the dishes definitely did not become anything routine. It felt good to be a little creative.

I'm still working on Amy's socks. It's going slower than I'd like and last night I realized I made the silliest of mistakes and had to take 4 rounds out before I could move forward. At least that's done and now the heel flaps should get done more quickly. I got the needles I ordered and transferred the stitches to my new needles and can now rest easy knowing I won't break another one.

This week has been busy in addition to the household stuff. I had an informational meeting for Amy's Brownie troop on Tuesday night. Tonight we are headed to Jessica's First Grade Family Night and tomorrow night I'll be at an informational meeting for Jessica's Daisy troop. We've got swim lessons going again two days a week and this weekend Amy has a service project for Brownies and we have a birthday party to attend. It's been fairly quiet this past month activity wise, but I guess the lull is over now. LOL

First Day, First Grade-digi layout

I decided to work on another layout this afternoon. The family came home a little earlier than I expected, but they had fun on their hike. The girls were content to relax in front of the tv for a bit, so I kept working on the layout. I tried my hand at recoloring some of the elements to better match the colors in the photos. I'm not 100% convinced I hit the mark, but I still think it looks okay.

For this layout I used this template by Linda Roos of In The Making Design. I've subscribed to her blog since I sort of got to know Linda when I was taking Jessica Sprague's classes. She has a very beautiful, clean and elegant style. Thanks for the template freebie, Linda! I also wanted a chalk type of font, but didn't have one in my stash, at least not one I could find. LOL So I did a quick google search and found this one on Fontspace. I really like how it looks on the chalkboard element and in the title and it was free! Whoo hoo!

I used a lined paper from It's Elementary by Dani Mogstad (SweetShoppeDesigns) and slightly recolored it. The chalkboard is from the same kit. The rest of the layout uses elements from School Rules by Kay Miller, which I got back when she was designing for SweetShoppe. The Shoppe is down at the moment, but you can find Kay's kit on her site here. I think she moved them to her own shop after she stepped down from SSD.
