Celebrate Today Card

I'm learning as I go. I thought I'd let you know this, so you can have a good chuckle and maybe, just maybe help someone whose memory is like mine. My computer is in the house. My craft room is in the garage. I used to have a computer in the garage, but then the girls computer died and it was pulled into the house. So, no computer in the garage. When I see a card that inspires me, I copy it and paste the picture into Word and any description I feel I might need. I even have gone so far as to type in the creator and/or blog info on this Word doc. Then I print it off and take the paper out to my room. Sounds good right? Wellllllll, when I come in, I usually bring the cards I've created and any drink and/or something the girls insist I carry because their hands are too full. Suffice it to say, my hands are pretty full. And those inspiration papers with all the info I printed? Well, they are usually sitting on my table in my craft room! When I sit down to share with you, I inevitably think oh I'll remember this or that. Ummmmm NO, I don't remember and half the time I'm too darn lazy to run back outside to grab the papers. This past week I had a "duh" moment! I thought, how can I get the info into the house without adding to the stuff I usually already carry? I looked at my huge stack of post-it notes and...picture the forehead slapping of the I could've had a V-8 commercials! LOL How obvious! Write notes on the post-it and stick it to the inside of the card! Yes, I know...I'm a sad, pitiful person not to have thought of this before. Ah well...it seems to be helping me as I jot notes as I'm creating the card, or immediately upon finishing it. So there you have it...how sad am I??? LOL

I created this card after seeing this one on the Lucky Clucker blog. Again, I didn't have the same papers, but I really like the colors in this plaid paper from The Spring Mat Stack. Oh and the polka dot paper is from the same stack. :o)

It's pretty straight forward, I think. I used my Nestabilities Scalloped Rectangle and Straight Rectangle, and then embossed the straight one. I adhered this to the main card using pop-dots to give it some dimension. A long time ago I picked up the Making Memories Slot punch things. I had to have it then, but honestly, haven't used it much. But I wanted to replicate the way she adhered the ribbon, so I pulled it out and used it on this card. The Celebrate Today also has a pop dot, but for some reason it looks crooked. Don't know why!

I have some more cards to share, so let's get to it...back in a minute.

Hello Card

I have to say, I just love Melissa Bickford's Just Dandy blog. Her designs have great appeal for me. Love that she shared a lot of ideas for her Women of Life stamp set! This is my version of this one she posted recently. Okay, so I don't own any Basic Grey paper, although I really like the paper she used on this card and I'm on the lookout for it. Anyway, I substituted with paper from my Spring Matstack. I think it works, don't you? I love the word hello stamped up the stem, too. I added the bling because I really like the look now! Oh I stamped and cut out the flowers. I added the second one on top with a pop dot. I stamped the center of the flower in Sweet Leaf, then added the Stickles.

Friendship Card

Guess I sort of just jumped into posting about my other card and didn't really chit chat, first. Obviously I was able to get out to my craft room today. Steve ended up being "on call" this weekend for a project that is due on Monday and so, we are hanging out close to home (so far so good, but you know if we'd have planned something...the phone would ring). This is the first time this has happened, so who am I to complain? I get to play! :o)

Yikes! I haven't gone back to journal on Jessica's version of the layout I shared the other day. Amy had the day off of school yesterday and we hung out at home until it was time to go to a tea party the girls were invited to. Well, the girls fought a lot and I tried to ignore them by working on my Intentions Challenge for my digi class. I was able to finish up tagging my digi supplies. Now I need to back them up and I'll have completed that challenge. But, she gave us a new one for the layout we're doing next week. I tried taking the photo, but it was too cloudy today. Tomorrow it's supposed to be nice so I'll try again and explain more later.

The girls had a great time, as usual when we were at our friends' house. But the second they loaded back up into the van, they were bickering again! Oh my goodness! They don't do this too often, but when they do, it goes on and on and on...

Okay, so that should catch you up a bit. When I saw this card and read how she colored the flowers, I KNEW I had to try it for myself. And here's the result. In case you don't check out the link, I'll tell you. These flowers are from Michaels bridal area. They come in a little clear paint bucket in either white or cream. They are shimmery and embossed. Well, Jen Del Muro shared that she used a waterpen and re-inker color the flower. What a great idea, huh? So, mine are colored with Blush re-inker. I tried to get a close up, but it came out too blurry. Check hers out now, if you didn't before.

Goodness of Life Card

I think this one is my favorite of the ones I created today. I saw this card on The Scalloped Edge and used that focal stamp as my inspiration for this card. Since I didn't have butterflies I felt would work, I chose to use the medallion image for the center. Looks kind of cool, I think. I had a 50% off coupon from Michaels and it was just itching to be redeemed. I saw this edge punch in the Martha Stewart aisle and I guess you can use coupons now for her stuff because they sold it to me for 50% off the regular price! Score! LOL

Is it April 10th or December 10th?

On Monday evening the weather forecasters were talking about a big storm coming that hadn't even developed yet! I scoffed, thinking how in the heck can they predict this storm if it isn't even there? Well, looky here, guess they were right! These pictures were taken just a couple of minutes ago. They may have gotten the start time for the snow actually falling off a little bit, but as predicted, it's snowing and will continue to do so off and on all day, dropping 3-6 inches of this white stuff. Darn and I was hoping for the 8-10 inches of "pretend" snow they predicted for the last storm. Guess they have to get it right at least part of the time. LOL
This is the part of the deck I cleaned off just the other day.

They have also predicted it will be a beautiful weekend and get up into the 70s on Monday. I hope they are right. ;o)

Buster-Then & Now Layout

Here is my Lesson 2a layout...finally! :o) I did spend just about the entire time Jessica was in school doin' digi stuff. I had just a couple of tasks to do to finish this one up, but one of them was journaling, and you do need to be fresh (and awake) to do that well.

Here's a rundown of what we were able to do by the end of the lesson:

*Re-color multiple patterned papers using an adjustment layer
*Create your own patterned paper with a custom brush
*Save a brush using the Preset Manager
*Create masks using custom shapes and alphabets
*Create a smooth gradient transition between two photos
*Add zig-zag stitching for a handmade look
*Create a photo overlay with a custom brush (I did this, but didn't include it
on this layout)
*Add a custom drop-shadow to a journaling card to pop it off the page

Cool, huh? :o) And here's what that translates to (click on photo to enlarge)!

I figured I'd do a layout on Buster, since I recently did one on Sarah.
I did this same layout, with a few variations with Amy as the subject. What do you think?

credits: patterned paper background Moonrise by Vicki Stegall, patterned paper darker blue paper by Ashalee Wall (both papers recolored) from Oscraps. The rest of the supplies are from our class file and are credited in the first layout.
Fonts on both: Anarchy, Fling (title), Alfred Heavy (ampersand), Century Gothic (journaling)

I did do the brush overlay on this layout, which is Amy's name in the photo. On Buster's layout, I didn't like how it looked at all, so I chose to leave it off.

I am working in the same layout for Jessica, but still have to do the journaling, and after a dinner out for Spirit Night at Chick Fil A, and snuggling with the girls, it was all I could do to get myself on the computer again to get these posted let alone figure out some decent journaling. LOL

Thanks for visiting. The layouts that are in our Digi: In Deep Gallery are so stunning! Last I looked there were something like 50 pages of layouts and we are only in week TWO! The students (can't just say ladies anymore, since we have a guy in class this time) are just SO talented! I wish I had the time and finger power to write comments on each one, but since a choice has to be made on how to spend my time, I have to choose working on lessons and admiring quietly those layouts in the Gallery. Any classmates who come to my blog, please know that I am always in awe of what you share even if I don't get to say so!

Card Instead of a Layout...

Jessica sent out Lesson 2 for the digi class I'm taking on Monday and I haven't had a chance to finish it. I worked on it last night, but it got late and I wanted to be fresh to work on it more, so I thought I'd get'r done today. First though, I registered my little Jessica for Kindergarten this morning! Sniff, sniff! Took her to preschool a little early so we could read stories together. Then, well, remember the deck that Steve asked me to clean up? Today was the day for me to do it. Granted it didn't take a huge amount of time, but it took up precious no kid time. (I was clearing out old toys that were littering it-you know how that goes, right?) Tuesdays are our trash pick up days and I wanted to get the stuff I didn't want to keep out to the trash before kids got home from school. Oh and it's a good thing I cleaned today as there is supposedly a storm coming in tomorrow that has the potential to develop into a pretty decent snow storm late tomorrow and Thursday. Then I called my friend Kelly in CA and talked for the remainder of the no kid time I had. Hadn't talked to her in a long time, so it was nice. Part of the reason I didn't get as much time on Monday is I decided to clean up around the house, so that I could work on my layout today with no "guilt." Ah well, the best laid plans sometimes get booted around by life. LOL

So, I thought I'd post a card I made a couple of weekends ago and didn't get to posting for some reason or another. I was inspired by this card on Dawn's Stamping Thoughts blog. I thought it was a unique card, even though there isn't a lot of stamping-heck only that flower, from Papertrey Ink's Women of Life set. She created a video tutorial, as well, which you can see here.

Credits: Doodebug patterned paper, Watermelon, Orange and Dutch Blue cardstock (CTMH), Souffle glaze pen (white), circle punch, corner punch used to make scalloped edge, Cricut for scalloped circle (Mini Monograms cartridge), Orange organdy ribbon from CTMH.

I WILL finish my lesson tomorrow...as all my "chores" are done.

Thanks for visiting!
