Card in a Box Valentine

Earlier this month I came across a neat looking pin on Pinterest. It was a picture of something called a "card in a box." I was definitely intrigued. The pin led me to this blog post on the Serene Stamper's blog. I printed off the directions and got to work. I forgot to share this after I made it and I hope you don't mind seeing another Valentine project well after Valentine's Day. You could create any theme you wanted.

I took several pictures to show that I was able to fit the folded box into an envelope sized for a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch card. Now I didn't write any notes on my sheet and I cannot remember for sure if I modified any of the cuts to make it fit. Something is niggling in my brain that I might have. So, I'm mentioning it, should you attempt this and wonder how I got it to fit in the envelope. 

I used Doodlebug papers and a Close To My Heart stamp set that was only available last year for a Whoooo's Your Valentine promotion. I cut the hearts using Spellbinders dies. 

Hopefully, I'll be able to head back to my crafty corner one of these days in the not too distant future.

Valentine Goodies...sharing a few days late...

I hope you had a sweet Valentine's Day. I made up a few more of the treat tubes and also some gable boxes and have been wanting to share before now, but haven't had the chance. So forgive the posting of Valentine's stuff after the fact. 

I tried a little something different with this one and added a "back" as you can see.

 I wanted to see how it would look if I included the sentiment on the back and I liked the look, so I kept it.

Forgive the blurry shot, but I thought it would also be fun to give the owls glittery beaks. I stamped the image on the back side of the glitter paper and cut it out. That way I knew it would fit. 

I've been wanting to make some treats using Doodlebug Lovebirds paper. I like it!

And while I had the paper out, I decided to make some gable boxes from Tags, Bags, Boxes 2. I thought the cut suggested would be too big, so I cut one an inch smaller than the other. So, these are cut at 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 inches. 

There you have my last few Valentine treats. As I was cleaning up my craft space yesterday, I found a lot more ideas I'd hoped to create, but simply ran out of time. Sigh. Oh well, there's always next year!

Treat Tubes for Valentine's Day Gifts

I recently got the January special from Close To My Heart (which is no longer available) and had some time today to play with the kit. The treat tubes are neat and, using the ideas on the packaging as inspiration, I decorated two this afternoon and thought I'd share. (Click on a photo to enlarge) I have used the stamp set that comes with the kit previously, but today I put together the boxes for the treat jars and the jars themselves.

 On the red box, I stamped the chevron stamp in Garnet, which I thought was a great dark color for the Cranberry read. The kit comes with a sheet of glitter paper and I thought I'd go ahead and use it, too.  For the white box, I stamped in Cotton Candy, a new to me color of ink. I used a Martha Stewart border punch to keep the heart them going.  All the stamps used are from the kit.

 I decorated the lid of the treat jar, too.

These were fun to play with and I've got at least 10 more I can decorate. Wheeeee!

Valentine’s Day Cards

I recently acquired the Close To My Heart promotional kit, Whooo’s Your Valentine and had some time today to play with it. Or rather, to play with the stamp set that comes with the kit. Thought I’d share what I came up with. Hope you like! The first two cards I’m sharing were inspired by cards I saw on Pinterest.

 Here’s the card I saw that led me to create this first card. It’s the third card as you scroll down the blog post. What I really liked on this card was the embossed lines. I have to be honest and let you know that it took me a couple of tries to get the lines embossed because I kept going too fast and my bone folder would jump the track. I added a heart gem that I had in my stash. I thought about adding a bow to the top ribbon piece, but I kind of liked it left alone. I cut the heart using the Artiste cartridge Real Size at 1 1/4 inches.

This card is pretty much a case of this card using the hearts from the CTMH kit. I liked using the Cuttlebug heart embossing folder, which I’ve had for years, but haven’t really used. LOL I liked the look of kraft and Blush. The images are stamped with Hollyhock ink and hand cut (maybe what they call “fussy” cut?). I used a Fiskars border punch for the scallops.

This next card is the result of my playing around a bit after seeing this card in my Reader. I really like the end result and wish I could get a better photo of it. If I don’t use flash when my camera says to, my images end up really blurry. Unfortunately, the ribbon is satin and kept catching the flash. I think you get the idea, though.

I’ve got a neat woodgrain embossing folder that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. It’s their Paper Studio brand. When I saw the card I linked above,  I decided to play with inking up this embossed piece of Kraft. I used some Brown Bag, Chocolate and Cocoa ink from CTMH. I then played with it being a sort of monochromatic look and while the ink looks a lot darker, the images are inked with Cocoa. Like I said, I am really happy with how this card came out. I think it’d be a nice masculine and non traditional Valentine’s card.
