Hi there! I knew that trying to clean today would be like shoveling snow in the middle of a blizzard so I didn't even bother. LOL Instead I got two new tires on the van (because the other day I discovered they were waaaayyy overdue for them), picked up my new contact lenses (that I can wear daily for a month before switching to a new pair~whooo hooo) and then I did a little shopping. When I got home and reconfirmed just why I didn't bother continuing to clean (um, let's just say you can't tell I worked so hard on the kitchen right now...sigh). I went into my crafty corner and consoled myself by creating a couple of cards.
Have you checked out Gina K's new {free} website called StampTV? She posts new videos regularly on how to do various techniques (supplies for which are sold in her online store). I've been meaning to watch the videos and watched a couple this morning. They were the inspiration for my cards and my shopping. *Ü* Be forewarned...Gina K. is VERY good at enabling! hee hee
This first card is my version of the glitter technique she shows. (If you click on the link above, you'll see the two videos on the main page). I picked up some Making Memories butterfly charms that go with the Flower Patch line and hadn't used them yet. After I sat down and was trying to think of a stamp image to use to try the glitter technique, I thought of these charms and decided to see if the same idea would work using the charm instead of a stamped image. This is the result...
I used Martha Stewart glitter and my Quickie glue pen. It was hard to get a good photo as the card is very glittery. It looks much better in real life. If you watch the video, she gives you some good tips and hints for working with the glitter.
To make the card, I used DCWV's new Summer in the Sun matstack and glittered matstack. I also used my oval and scallop oval Nestabilities. To get the charm to stick to the cardstock, I ran it through my little Xyron X shaped sticker maker. I used the Spiral Lattice Martha Stewart border punch and Sizzix corner dies (which were also run through the X to make them stickers). I used pop dots to lift the main image up a little and finally I added some velvet ribbon that I picked up from Michaels. I'm now thinking maybe the bottom right corner needs something...maybe that's where the sentiment would go or some dark blue brads??? Anyway, I like how it came out and just wish I could get it to photograph nicely. Oh well.
The next card is pretty much a CASE of the card she shows in the Foil technique video. How cool is this?
Yep, that's heavy duty aluminum foil run through my Cuttlebug embossing folder. My shopping trip this morning was to find metallic rub on paste. I know Gina sells it, but impatient me didn't want to wait for it to ship. So I tried my regular haunts with no luck. I was pretty confident this other store would have it, but it was a bit of a drive, so I wanted to be sure I couldn't find them closer. I made the fairly quick trip and was successful in finding the same product used in the video and that's what makes the foil look a little "older." You do have to be careful that you don't pull too hard on the foil or it will tear. Good thing my image fits over the tear in this piece, huh? LOL The flowers are those ones you can get at Michaels in the bridal department. I just poked a black brad through the center. The stems are from a Basic Grey stamp set, the same one with the pretty rose shown in the Porcelain paper pack. The sentiment is from Verve's Petals and Stems set and is stamped in black ink. I added that bit of ribbon because I liked how it looked. It's from Michaels $1 ribbon bin...it's a holiday ribbon, actually. The textured black and reddish paper is from Hobby Lobby.
On the family front...our school district was having an art show at a local community college library and Jessica's Very Busy Spider art project was selected to be shown. Of course we had to go check it out and take her photo next to it. *Ü*
This is just a sampling of what was on display for our school. All of the elementary schools in the district participated and it was quite wonderful to see the different techniques displayed and talents of the students in the district.
