Barbie is a Great "Cure-all"...

Jessica had a tough first full day as a 7 year old, poor thing.

We had swim lessons this afternoon and some good friends we've met at our lessons gave Jessica a birthday present today since they will be out of town this weekend when we have Jessica's birthday party. The present is a Barbie Beach Cruiser and Summer Barbie doll. Jessica was so excited because it was the very car she wanted.

She and her friend started their lesson, but her friend had to leave a little early. Jessica was at the end of her lesson and was getting out of the pool, when apparently, someone fell on her causing her to hit her head on the pool or the deck (I'm not sure which since I didn't see this happen). She hit her head hard enough to cause a pretty good gash about an inch long. The middle part of it looked rather deep. She was understandably extremely upset. I knew we needed to see someone to have it looked at and she was more upset about this than the "owie." She didn't want to see a doctor and she definitely didn't want stitches.

We left immediately (poor Amy had to skip her lesson entirely) and went straight to Urgent , where they numbed the area topically (no needles), cleaned out the wound and "glued" the gash together with Dermabond. Now she gets to sport a lovely bandage until it heals.
As she was starting to calm down while we were waiting for the doctor, she wanted her blankie. Of course, it was at home. Amy had Georgiana (the crocheted giraffe) and she gave her to Jessica to hold, which was very sweet of her. It helped a lot to comfort Jessica. Once she calmed down, she was such a trooper. I was very proud of how brave she was and how concerned Amy was about her. An hour and a half later, we were on our way home.

About halfway through the waiting time, Jessica started talking about how she wanted to go home so she could play with her new car. Steve got home from work before us and cooked dinner, which was Tuna Helper (Jessica loves the stuff). She ate well and was giggly and happy again (whew) and she immediately went to her new Barbie goods and started playing.

Thank goodness for Barbie to distract her!
Oh and during our waiting time I was asking
Jessica if her mouth hurt (just in case she bit her tongue or cheek) and she informed me that she thought one of her teeth got loose when she was kicked in the mouth. HUH? Apparently at school today the foot of one of her classmates nailed her on the side of her mouth. There's no mark, so it wasn't that bad, but I felt so bad for her, having such a tough first day of being seven.

Her owie is hurting right now and she wants to snuggle, so I'm going to do that.

Let's hope being seven will be less painful from here on out!

Oh man, what a day!!! Hope the gash heals up quickly and that the loose tooth comes out and the tooth fairy brings ya something nice, Jess! :)

Hugs!

Oh my goodness! I hope her first was the worst and the rest of her 7th year is smooth sailing.

Poor Jessica (mom, too). Sweet Amy! Dad, too, for having supper ready.

Love the photos. The big bandage takes nothing away from that sweet face. As for the Barbie stuff, how fun! The pictures of them playing together are so cute. It will all make a great story for a scrapbook page.

Enjoy the party on Saturday! Can't wait to see what you do.

Bummer - what a day! It's great that she has such a sweet sister to help comfort her. I hope the rest of her seventh year goes better!

Oh Dear! I'm sorry her first day was so hard! I'm thankful for the healing powers of Dr. Barbie, though!

Your family is so caring - the way Amy jumps in to comfort, DH fixing the "favorite" dinner, I wish every household could be so blessed with love.

hugs.

OMG... But what timing and awesome gift to take her mind off the "OUCH" I bet that smart.
When Micah was little 3? my daughter was giving him a bath. Micah slipped and hit the corner of the tub. Split the corner of his eye open. He had to have liquid stitches too.

Have a fun BD party Jessica!! I will show Micah your picture and tell him you both share the same BD. Maybe next year you can send eachothe a BD card. Wouldn't that be fun? :)

Poor Jessica. What a rotten way to ring in being 7. I'm glad she's alright now and how sweet of Amy to let her hold the giraffe and comfort her.

Here's hoping that there's no more trips to Urgent care.

Oh no, and on her first day? The poor thing!!
By the way, thanks for that post on washing walls! You caused me a long morning of labor intensive housework :) You guilted me into washing my walls and ceiling while washing my curtains and windows. Yuck!!! thanks!!! I really did get the feeling of having accomplished something wonderful (not) :) :)

Oh dear not a happy way to spend your first day of being a 7 year old. I hope her head heals well.
Love the barbie stuff. I loved barbie when I was little but we didn't have cool cars etc.

Oh, the poor baby!! It's nice that they didn't have to use stitches, and I hope it heals quickly. Not a very fun way to spend your first day of being seven, but I have a feeling it will always be a memorable one. ;) It was so sweet of Amy to share her giraffe with her, and nice, too, that Jessica had something extra special to open up and play with --nice distractions. But of course, having one of the sweetest moms around to cuddle with beats even a new Barbie.
