What Is It With My Girls??

Hi there!

I thought raising girls wasn't supposed to be filled with trips to the doctor for various injuries. Maybe it is for other girls, but not mine, I guess!

Yep, I had to take Amy to the doctor today to get a finger x-rayed. No photos, per her request, which is just as well, the finger looks kind of scary.

Yesterday, our neighbor came over to chat because her hubby was watching the Broncos game and he doesn't talk while watching football (made me giggle when she said that, because I don't talk much either and I had just shushed the girls for messing around while I was watching the game). Anyway, Steve ended up taking her outside to the garage to show her his weight bench and treadmill set up out in the garage. The girls followed (and I stayed inside to watch the game, bad I know, but the room is kind of small and filled up with those two pieces of equipment amongst other things). That happened around 11:30am. After our neighbor left, the girls played all afternoon, including climbing the tree outside, playing the Wii and just being their active selves.

While we were eating dinner, Amy raised her taco to take a bite and that's when I noticed the middle finger of her left hand looked, well, kind of dirty and sort of funny. So I asked her what happened to her finger. She kind of hung her head and said, I was trying to hide it from you all day. THAT made me look even closer. The finger was swollen big time and the "dirt" was actually bruising. Turns out, when they were all in the garage, the girls were messing with the weights and one of them fell onto Amy's fingers! She never said a word about it. I kind of lost my appetite at that point. She insisted it didn't hurt much and she could move it a little. But we iced it right away and for the rest of the evening. The swelling hadn't gone down much this morning and Steve thought we should have it x-rayed. Because she insisted it didn't hurt really and she literally played all day yesterday, I figured she could go to school and I'd pull her out when it was time to go to the doctor's office. I had the health aide take a look at it at school and she thought for sure it was broken!

Well, it turned out that it wasn't broken, just very, very bruised. I told the girls that we REALLY need to know if they are hurt so we can get things taken care of so as not to make it worse. I think we got really lucky on this one.

These kids of mine would most likely turn my hair white, if it wasn't already! Maybe they'll make the color I put on it slide off. Sheesh...LOL

Oh my gosh Jeanne. I bet your heart did a number on you too when you found out that she had been keeping it a secret from you all day. What a brave little girl and it's a good thing it wasn't broken. I hope it heals really fast.

Oh dear, I hope it heals fast. My dd#1 is the opposite I hear about every little ache and pain she has!

Oh, My! So glad to hear it isn't broken. Kids! They think they are going to get into trouble, so they hide serious injuries. Hope she heals fast. Hugs!

Oh my, Jeanne. You brought back such an awful memory of a similar incident with my DD. I know a little about how you much have felt when you realized her finger wasn't dirty . . . My goodness! I'm grateful it wasn't broken but the sprains and bad bruises take awhile to heal. Somehow I doubt it will slow them down though - it sure didn't with mine! LOL

Hugs!

Yeah I'm glued too, watching the Packer game!! They won!!
Oh my, I'm glad Amy is alright. and her finger wasn't broken. Cailyn dropped a weight on her foot over the summer. It wasn't broken, just VERY bruised.

I am glad Amy's finger wasn't broken. What a tough little thing she is. While my boys had their share of accidents and medical emergencies, neither of them has ever broken a bone - unlike their tomboy mom. Trees, batons, and volleyballs can all be bone-breakers.

Oh, my! I'm really surprised Amy hid it from you, but glad that you did finally have it checked just to be on the safe side...and that it wasn't broken. Hopefully the girls learned NOT to play with dad's weight equipment AND to tell you if/when ever they do get injured. Like you said, Sheesh! Kids (but ya gotta love 'em -lol)!! ;P

big hugs to ya,
Christi

Oh Jeanne, what a tramatic story. I'm glad she's okay and that it's not broken. Hopefully next time she'll let you know right away that something's wrong.

And yes, this does seem like something that would be more likely to happen to a little boy.
