Sketch Challenge from Erin at Inky Smiles

Erin G. and I have been chatting a lot recently and I love it! We were chatting earlier today and I told her I wanted to work on a card, but felt mojo-less. She reminded me that she had just posted a sketch challenge and I should try it. With the challenge issued, I did my best and here's the result:100_5156

I have to tell you about the dp...which is Basic Grey's Urban Prairie (12 x 12 size) from Michaels. I picked it up a while ago when they had all their paper packs on sale for 40% off. When the gal scanned it, it came up as unknown. So, she called someone for a price-check. I told her it was in the scrapbooking area where the paper was on sale. They were pretty busy and I felt bad for the couple behind me who were a bit antsy to be on their way. Well, we waited and waited and waited and I was going to tell the girl to just forget it. The one who was checking the item finally came back and said...I can't find it anywhere how does $5 sound? Ummmm...I'll take it!Open-mouthed I felt a teensy bit bad, but I DID try to tell her the price and that it was on sale. I must have picked up the last one at the time.

Now, onto the card, the only thing I think I changed on the sketch is the placement of the patterned vs. the solid paper. On another trip to Michaels, (it helps that it is about 5 minutes from where I live and right next to SuperTarget, so I'm often in the area) I wandered into the bead/jewelry making aisle and found a package of these medallion looking pieces. I immediately thought they would look neat if I attached them to a card using ribbon and this was my inspiration for making the card. I had to work with that one thing and the rest of the card evolved from there. LOL So, first I pulled out the Kraft paper and then the Urban Prairie paper. I loved the butterflies on this one. The blue and green paper are also in this stack which helps when you want it to coordinate (Wink). I knew I wanted to use a butterfly stamp, but that Basic Grey one I just got was too big. I wondered what it would look like to use a Verve butterfly image on the dp. So I inked it up in Indian Corn Blue (CTMH) and tried. I liked it! Then I cut them out and attached with a glue dot. I added some jewels (from Hobby Lobby in their jewelry section).

I thank you, Erin for igniting my mojo with this sketch...hope I did it justice! If you want to see the card in more detail, click on the image.

Stuff I Used:
Stamps: Fluttering By (Verve Visual)

Paper: Urban Prairie (Basic Grey), Kraft (from Archiver's)

Ink: Indian Corn Blue (CTMH)

Accessories: jewels (Hobby Lobby), medallion (Michaels) Summer Sunrise ribbon(Papertrey Ink)

I've got another card to share, but I'll do it in a separate post.

Thanks for stopping by!

Recent RAKs

Nothing makes me smile more than receiving an unexpected card in the mail. Recently Barb and Erin sent me some smiles. Thank you ladies, so much!

100_5151 100_5152

For October's Breast Cancer Awareness month, Barb made these cards. I thought it was such a neat thing and a beautiful card and I told her so. She surprised me by sending me one. What a sweetheart! The glitter on the ribbon just pops. Click here  for the details for making the card.

100_5157 Then Erin sent me this beauty. I am guessing here, but I'm pretty sure that paper and ribbon is from Papertrey Ink and the sentiment from CTMH's September Stamp of the Month.  She embossed using her Cuttlebug and Swiss Dots. She also used the Oval Nestabilities. I think this is so pretty!

Ladies, you made my day!

Batty For U-digi layout

Batty-for-U Here's one more (and my last) layout for NSD! No challenge for this one, except with myself. I really like this photo (except for the fact it was over exposed). I ran an action to fix the over exposure and think it looks a little better than the straight out of the camera photo.

Of course I used a template...Cookie Decorating 101 from 8/13/08 by Tracey Howard on Sweet Shoppe Designs. I used a kit called Eeriesistable by Mary Fran at NitwitCollections. Font is Pea Sara Script.

And now I am d-o-n-e for the day! Honestly, I haven't been sitting in front of the computer the entire day, but for a good part of it. I snuggled with the girls for a while and we even went out to dinner at Sweet Tomatoes (salad buffet)! But I think it's time to step away from the computer, Jeanne...

Thanks so much for all your sweet and encouraging comments...I really appreciate them. I wonder sometimes if I am boring the readers of this blog with my ramblings.

Maybe tomorrow I can wander into my corner and make a card...

Trunk or Treat Digi Layout

DSDchattemplate2trunkortrea There was another speed scrap at Sweet Shoppe Designs and now that I sort of know what to do, it went more smoothly for me. I actually finished this before the deadline! I'm not really all that thrilled with this one, but wanted to use a kit that was purchased from the Shoppe, since they were hosting the scrap. I don't have any Halloween type kits from SSD, but I figured fall would be okay. This one might be redone at some point as well.

Thanks again for stopping by. I hope you had some time to create today as well.

Who knows if I'll get any more done this evening...

Cute Spooks

DSDchattemplatecute-spooks Happy International Digital Scrapbooking Day! Wow, that's a mouthful, isn't it? Well, today is the second annual NSD and I've done my part by buying up some things and have participated in a challenge or two over at Sweet Shoppe Designs. I even sort of participated in my first "speed scrap." I say sort of because I spent a good part of the hour long chat just trying to get into the chat! It appears that I needed Java and my computer didn't have Java installed. Once I figured that out and got it downloaded the chat was pretty much done. But we were given another hour to do the layout using a template provided by the challenge/chat hostess Meagan Mullens.

Then it was a challenge (no pun intended) to get the layout posted in time for the deadline. The site must be getting slammed because it is working very slowly. When I first tried uploading my layout the file was too large, so I had to resize it again a little smaller, but I got it uploaded finally. Whew...what a workout!

I used Kay Miller's Cute Spooks kit (www.kaymillerdesigns.com) and a staple from a kit called Carnival by Michelle Underwood...I received the kit as part of my subscription to ScrapWow. The font is Century Gothic.

I think the layout came out okay, but you may see these pictures again in a different layout. LOL

Thanks for stopping by!

Pumpkin Carving

100_5131  100_5134 100_5136 100_5141

The girls were quite excited to get to work on the pumpkins this afternoon. I know a lot of kids don't like pumpkin "guts," but my girls seem to relish the ooey gooey-ness! It may seem a bit late to actually carve them on Halloween, but around these parts if you do it earlier they start drying up or getting mushy right away. Waiting means they'll look good during show time! It helped of course, that the girls were off school today.

We started out with Amy's pumpkin and were disappointed to see, upon carving out the lid (after I dropped it bringing it into the house when the stem broke off), the inside was a bit moldy. Surprised We still carved it, but  threw out the seeds (dangnabit, the seeds are my favorite part-wink, wink Felicia). You can see Amy's pumpkin on the left...with it carved the way she requested. I had stencils that we used for the other two. But the caveat for those is I couldn't find my pumpkin carving tools and did them with a regular paring knife. So, if they look a little rough around the edges, that's why. Winking

I've roasted our seeds, but they are a bit dry this year. Sigh...oh well. It's not like I need the seeds, right?

Thanks for stopping by. It's entirely possible/probable that I will post pictures from this evening, so feel free to check back later...or not.

Happy Halloween!

100_5105

Isn't this a cute pizza? I surprised the girls for dinner last night by picking one of these up. They don't have school today and the school put on a Trunk or Treat/Fall Ball event last night.  I volunteered to help pass out cookies for 25 minutes. Well, I ended up volunteering until the line of people was gone-which was well over an hour). That means I didn't get to see the decorated trunks at all (except from my vantage point at the cookie table).

Steve took the girls and my camera and took lots of pictures...here are just a few:

100_5107 100_5110 100_5113 100_5122

I think I'll give him points for trying... (he said he put the camera on the night setting...you know the one where you need to have a very steady hand or a tripod)

He did get a couple that were better

100_5114 100_5112  The fingers on the table apparently grabbed the hands of people trying to get candy. Amy was safe, but Jessica got grabbed, I'm told.

At the dance Amy rocked out! A couple of the teachers were the deejays on the stage and they got everyone in the spirit!

100_5124 100_5127 I took this one of Steve and Jessica.

I think the school can safely say the event was a rousing success. There were a TON of people there all having a great time. I'm sure it helped that the weather was perfect...70s during the day and just a hint of crispness to the air by the time the event started at 6pm.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you all have a fun-filled and safe Halloween!
