Cards with Cork!

After a yummy spaghetti dinner, I am back to post the other two cards I created today. If you are a regular reader, you know of my recent obsession with supplies that add texture to cards. Today it's cork! I've been inspired by cards I've seen in the blogosphere, of course.

First up is this card...

It was inspired by a card seen on Kimberly Crawford's blog, For The Love of Paper.  I couldn't find it in my starred projects. I realized that she had to pull the project because it's going to be published, so I can't link it. While inspired by her card, I hope it's different enough not to cause her any problems by my posting my version. If I hear of any issues, I will pull the card.

Basically the fun part of this card is the flower, made from cork and my Cuttlebug...specifically the Flower dies. There are two flowers, layered on top of each other, but the cork is very thin and it didn't show up well in the photo. I stamped the Polka Dot Basics (PTI) image on black paper with pigment dye ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Then I scalloped the bottom edge. The ribbon is PTI's Berry Sorbet. The sentiment is from PTI as well, Birthday Basics, I think the name is. I added some black rhinestones/pearls and a stud I found at Hobby Lobby. Pretty straightforward, but nice, don't you think? I found the cork at Michaels where they sell their cork boards and such. It came in a package 8 1/2 by 11 sheets that are fairly thin, so you have to be careful when adhering. I know this because I pulled the top flower apart when I tried to add my ATG gun adhesive. Ripped it right in half! Oops!

I've recently discovered Dawn McVey's blog, My Favorite Things, and it's been a real treat to be inspired by her beautiful creations. I pretty much cased this card as you can see below...

The stamped images are from where else? Papertrey Ink! It's the recently released Teacher's Apple set. I used their Berry Sorbet ink and a bit of cardstock and ribbon. The wide grosgrain is from Michaels and made by American Crafts. I stamped the stems/leaves in CTMH's Clover Meadow ink. To create the mat, I used a template I found on Mel Stampz's blog, here. I used PTI's Polka Dot Basics and Chocolate ink from CTMH for the polka dots and main sentiment. The other ink is Berry Sorbet. I used my new Fiskars border punch, Apron Lace and the sentiment and apples are popped up with pop dots. As a final touch I used some silver bling that I got at Michaels.

It took me a longer time than I thought to find the links this evening, but I think I was able to share what I wanted to. I hope you enjoy what I've created today. We'll see how the rest of the weekend plays out.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by!

Jeanne

I've been scrolling back and forth, back and forth between your last two posts. Obviously, when you get it back, it comes in a BIG way! Great cards. Love the cork on these two.

I love how you have used the cork. It is also a great quote you have used on the teacher card.

I WANT YOUR MOJO!

Seriously... I might have to drive out to Colorado to kidnap it! :) Kathi is right... you got it back in a BIG way! I love the cork. There's a stack of it in my closet that might need to be pulled out! :)

I really like the teacher card! The sentiment is just perfect :)
