Winter Bear Card in Pink!

Happy Tuesday to you! We have had a nice, sunshiny day today, although the wind is a bit brisk. Thank you so much for all the sweet comments on the card I posted yesterday. I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know what you think. I do have a special person in mind for this card, although it will be tough to let it go. LOL

I was able to wander into my corner this afternoon and color in the Winter Bear image from All That Scraps. It's offered as a stamp and as a digital download. These digital images are SO cool! Kathi made an adorable card using this image that you can see here. Then I saw these cards on Sparkle's blog and knew I wanted to try my hand at using pinks to color it in. Sparkle is a pro at coloring with Copics! While I love the new Bittersweet Basic Grey paper Sparkle used, I don't own the pack (yet). I was going to use another paper, but I couldn't find a solid pink that coordinated well with the design of the paper I wanted to use, so I stuck with solid cardstock.

I colored in the image with colored pencils (Kohinoor Woodless Colour Pencils) that I picked up at Michaels awhile ago. I'm sure I've seen them at Hobby Lobby and I'll bet other art supply stores would carry them. I saw a review of them on Gina K's blog and like what she had to say about the vibrant colors. I think they blend a little easier for this novice at blending than the Prismacolor pencils do. I like the whole marker idea, you know with the Sharpies and Bic Mark-its, but have decided that I would like to try to get better at blending with colored pencils with odorless mineral spirits (found at Michaels) because I also like the softer look I can achieve.

Anyway, you can see the results of my coloring today. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. Although I think I should have used a lighter blue for the insides of the white areas. I probably should have checked my Prismacolor stash. lol

The card is pretty straightforward overall. Used the Cuttlebug Snowflakes embossing folder, Scallop Square Nestabilities, Martha Stewart snowflake punch, some ribbon a little bling and the opaque white color pen for the dots. An item of note might be the silver stud I put on the snowflake. I found that at Hobby Lobby and it's really a stud, like you would use a Be-dazzler tool to add it to your clothes. It has four prongs like a concho. Anyway, I found I could bend the prongs inward and add the stud with a glue dot. Then I added the rhinestone on top. Kinda nifty, huh?

I had a lot of fun with the coloring on this card. And I'm looking forward to practicing some more. ha!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope you are having a great day!

Jeanne

Oh, cute! I love the bright pink!!! Glad you enjoyed coloring with colored pencils, too. You did an awesome job. I've read good things about the Kohinoor pencils. As for the digital images, they are definitely something I could get into for all the reasons I mentioned in my post. Back to your card, those white dots on the scallops blow me away. Just the right finishing touch and SO perfectly placed. I'd get almost all the around the whole thing and then get a twitch or something and screw it all up on the last scallop. LOL. I'm lovin' what you're doing these days!

These are beautiful, Jeanne! I love the digi images, too! One of these days I am going to try those pencils. I have the CTMH and SU watercolors, but they aren't very vibrant... I wonder if I can use them with odorless mineral spirits... Hrmmmmmm.

Jeanne, this card is just adorable! I think you did an excellent job with your coloring (in fact I can't think of a single crafting thing that you don't do well!). Sweet image, and love the look of the pink and white contrast.
