Meet Gwendolyn...

Happy Wednesday to you! I am so excited to share my just finished Gwendolyn doll with you! I took lots of pictures, so hopefully you can see all the details...

I kept the photos smaller so you can click to enlarge them if you want.

Isn't she FUN!?! Amy has been pleading with me for days to be the one to get the first doll. So far, I haven't caved. I made it for ME this time (although part of me does want to give it to her...I'm so weak). Remember that yarn that was giving me fits the other night? It was a haute fur and I was using it to make the hat. I've never worked with that type of yarn before and oh. my. gosh. I thought I was going to rip my own hair out instead of the doll's. I tried so many different ways to work with the yarn and didn't like any of them-half the time I couldn't see the stitches for all the "hairs". Finally, I looked for a different yarn with shorter "hairs." The eyelash yarn I got went together like a dream (got it done on my first attempt) compared to the other stuff. LOL

As I was making each piece, I wasn't convinced that the pieces would fit together well. I thought some of them were too large (the sleeves and the bloomers, specifically) but I figured I could trust the designer and if I didn't like it...Amy would get the doll and I'd make any adjustments on the next one. Lo and behold...it all worked together wonderfully, I think!

The skirt is made with a stitch I have never heard of/seen before. It's called Entrelac and is worked block by block. I guess you usually need a long hook to make something with it, but for the doll, I was able to use my regular crochet hook. I love the texture it adds AND it was super easy and fast to do.

I found the pattern on Gourmet Crochet (the same place I got the dinosaur pattern and pony pattern). She has some pretty cool patterns there and the directions are pretty clear and fairly easy to follow.

Thanks SO much for stopping by. I love Gwendolyn and hope you enjoy her, too!

I LOVE Gwen..esp her bloomers LOL. You are so talented..you should see me try and knit..ha ha my stitches get so tight I can hardly even get the needles through (they actually creak and scream at me). SO I hold anyone who can do this in great esteem.(and I know what you do is not knitting BTW lol) TG sewing with a machine on paper is SO EASY!
Thanks for sharing her with us...

Oh my goodness, Jeanne! Gwendolyn is absolutely ADORABLE!! (Is she from some of the Wallace and Grommit movies? She looks like she could be.) I'm glad you got it all to work out for you...that yarn, although pretty, sounds like a nightmare to work with! I love all the different colors, textures, and all the fun additions like like her bloomers, striped leggings, and puffy sleeves -- just soooo cute! You did an amazing job, Jeanne!! (Again!!!) It's no wonder Amy stole her from you! I would think that Jessica might be asking for one next....
