Patriotic Performance, Butterflies and Let’s Eat Cake!

Happy Tuesday to you! Unfortunately, I don’t have any new artwork to sharesmile_sad but I do have some pictures.smile_regular

Today Jessica’s kindergarten class had a performance of patriotic music to share with the parents. They  had some lines to memorize and recite as well as singing the songs. It was very sweet. The lighting in the room we were in was horrible for taking pictures and most of mine came out super dark. I tried different settings and even tried PSE to fix some, but they weren’t very good. When Jessica came up to recite her lines, with another student (who’s been cropped out), the lighting was better. So, here’s my little performer…

Her eye looks a little wonky in that last one as it was bright glowing red in the original photo. She was excited to be able to wear the sparkly blue tie and her outfit is new. The shirt says Patriotic Girl (very appropriate don’t  you think? LOL)

After the cute performance, the parents were invited back to the classroom for a patriotic treat of cookies, popcorn and juice. Once that was eaten, it was onto the project for the day…making butterfly  t-shirts from foot and hand prints. On the back of the t-shirt is a cute little saying about butterflies. While this didn’t have anything to do with the performance, the class is observing caterpillars’ metamorphoses (don’t know if I said that right, but my computer isn’t yelling at me to change it, so I’ll keep it) into butterflies. They are in the chrysalis stage right now. The timing was perfect with all the parents in attendance as there were plenty of willing hands to help out. We were all busy helping the kids get their shirts done.

Jessica’s teacher snapped this photo of Jess (I was too busy at this point to actually take any photos of this project) and it’s too cute not to share. Her footprint is the body of the butterfly and her handprints are the wings. Hmm…wonder what color she chose for the body?? LOL  Hopefully the shirts will be dry enough to come home tomorrow.

I have not been able to get to my crafty corner since Saturday. On Sunday I decided it was high time I start weeding where I normally have flowers-that took up most of the afternoon. Steve worked on the veggie garden area and he even harvested some rhubarb that was ready for using. He found a recipe on Betty Crocker for a Strawberry-Rhubarb Upside Down cake and the remainder of the afternoon was spent getting the cake made. Wanna see how yummy it looks?

And oh my goodness, is it ever tasty! Want to try it for yourself? Here’s the recipe! It’s easy to put together…This is what’s left of a 13x9 pan. Guess I can safely say it’s a hit in our household.

In addition to this…I’ve been washing screens and windows. I finally finagled the kitchen window screen off, so I could wash the window looking out to my backyard. While it was off, I washed the screen and oh boy, does it look good now…I can really see the weeds!

The weather has been very summer-like so far this week, but I’m hearing there is a cold front coming on Thursday/Friday. GREAT…it’ll probably rain and mess up all the hard work I’ve been doing…Ah well…it’s looking good for a few days at least.

Thanks ever so much for stopping by. I hope your week is going well. I’m hoping to get to create something in the next day or so…don’t give up on me just yet, okay?

What sweet photos! Jessica looks so cute in her outfit. There's got to be a layout or two to come... As for that cake, I need to get my hands on some rhubarb and make a little treat for the hubby who LOVES rhubarb. Thanks for sharing the link for the recipe. Like Barb, I love the family stories, too!

Glad you were able to get some cleaning done...it's not fun but one of those things we all need to do.

Your rhubarb cake looks so moist and delicious...bet it's all gone by now! ;)
