With Sympathy Card...

When Kathi posted this Best Wishes card, I knew I had to get myself the same embossing folder so I could try this technique myself. I didn't look at the card again before I sat down to make it and I thought hers was a sympathy card. Oops. Well, hopefully mine isn't too glittery for expressing sympathy...

I put my own spin on it and added butterfly punches from two Martha Stewart punches. I've been taking my pictures on a chair we have right by a large picture window in our living room. It faces the west, so as the sun moves towards the west, it gets pretty bright. Today, I took the first picture in the "shade" on the chair and then decided to take a second one in the sunlight to see the difference. You can definitely see the sparkle better on the second shot, huh?

I used my Quickie glue pen and Prisma glitter I had from CTMH. Like Kathi, I did it in small sections. I thought about putting some glitter on the butterflies, but deemed that would be "too much," and settled for adding some silver rhinestone stickers.

I think I might have to try this again and put a different sentiment on it though, don't you think?

Shifting gears...I wanted to share a new website that just launched this week. It's called Crochet Soiree and it geared mainly for...you guessed it, crocheters! It's kind of like Paper Craft Planet, but for the yarn folks. There's a bit for knitters, too. I noticed there are tutorials and message boards and places to post your projects and patterns. There's also an online store. If you've been interested in crocheting, but weren't sure where to look it might be worth a look-see. I believe it's a sister site or affiliated in some way with Two Peas in a Bucket, but don't quote me on that. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing it evolve and grow and just wanted to share it with you.

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow celebrating all the Moms out there!

Ohhh this is lovely! The glitter looks like a completely different color in the second shot. Although the butterflies are black it might be a bit too glittery for a sympathy card..but I am no expert. It is a simply stunning card.
After I saw your rose and crocheted flower I seriously stood in walmart with a book on crocheting for beginners in my hands LOL. Then I put it back. :-)
Happy Mothers Day from the button addict.

I love this and can't believe what a difference the lighting makes. I personally don't think it's too sparkly but I do love glitter and sparkle. I really think it's an elegant card with the pop of black. The butterflies are a nice touch and I think you were right on those, to leave them un-glittered.

Thanks for all your nice comments on my blog. I hope you too have a fabulous Mother's Day.

Beautiful! I love the butterflies! Why didn't I think of that??? As for the sentiment, I can think of a few older ladies to like their bling, and a glittery card might be an appropriate way to honor one of them. Know anyone like that? I been paying special attention to crochet patterns lately... You've definitely made an impression!

Wow --what a huge difference the direct sunlight makes in your pics! This card is so pretty (and sparkly), and I'm thinking now that surgically turning it into a birthday card was a good choice. Nice call, Doctor. ;)
